November 18 - Carl Maria von Weber; Henry Bishop; Amelita Galli-Curci (The Musical Birthday Series)

Carl Maria von Weber (18 or 19 November 1786 – 5 June 1826) was an important German Romantic composer of the early Romantic period.

Maxed Out: Three Variations on a Theme of Carl Maria von Weber

(1)
For Max the whole week had been rough
Since his shooting was not up to snuff.
But he should have known when,
In the scene in Wolf’s Glen,
To tell them “Enough is enough!”

(2)
Poor Max was a terrible shot;
The gamekeeper Kaspar was not.
Said Kaspar, “You’re armed
With a bullet that’s charmed.”
And therein, dear friends, is the plot.

(3)
At the shooting match Max was distressed
By Kaspar’s mysterious guest.
But shot number seven
Was deflected by heaven,
And everything worked for the best.

life of the Regency and early Victorian period.

Amelita Galli-Curci (18 November 1882 – 26 November 1963) was a beloved coloratura soprano.

Be It Ever So

Great-grandma felt a pang
When Galli-Curci sang
Sir Henry Bishop’s song of Home So Sweet.

Great-grandma would remark
At Sir Henry’s Gentle Lark
“That Galli-Curci’s singing is a treat!”
