[For last year's post on Claudio Monteverdi click here.]
Irish I May, Irish I Might
Though now and then we give a whirl
To staging The Bohemian Girl,
“I Dreamt I Dwelt in Marble Halls”
Is all that anyone recalls.
The passing of Victoria’s age
Took Michael Balfe from off the stage.
Balfe, who once was highly graded
Finds his reputation faded,
For we no longer like what they did.
Ah! taste moves on, and who can blames us
If Balfe is now no longer famous.
