Nicola Porpora (17 August 1686 – 3 March 1768) was a fine composer and a great singing teacher.

1685/86
Remember that Handel and Bach and Scarlatti,
The creme de la creme of the art's glitterati,
Whose musical corpus is well and alive
Were assigned by the Fates to year ‘85.
Porpora nearly was found in the mix
But he was delivered in mid ‘86,
Dame Fortune thus cruelly denied him his glory
By having him born a year late in the story.
