Giacomo Carissimi (bapt.18 April 1605 – 12 January 1674) was an important Italian composer and music teacher, some of whose works are still in the active choral repertoire.

But Carissimi’s musical magic
Makes Jepthe’s effrontery tragic,
Transfiguring filicide madness
With notes of ineffable sadness.
