Patti LuPone (b. 21 April 1949) is an American actress and singer best known for her work in stage musicals.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Beyond Words

Patti LuPone, a force of nature,

Merits her own nomenclature.

All our adjectives grow stale

With a talent on this scale

Critics who have gone before us

Have exhausted the thesaurus,

Yet they hesitate and stammer

When they face her blazing glamor.

Nothing that they’ve said or written,

Here on Broadway or in Britain,

Can describe the special wallop

That a superstar can call up,

Nor can critics find the essence

Of charismatic incandescence.
