Charles Wesley (18 December 1707 – 29 March 1788) was an English leader of the Methodist movement, most widely known for writing the words for over 6,500 hymns.

“Hark, how all the welkin rings”
Are lyrics that one seldom sings,
And yet this words were writ expressly
By their author Charles Wesley.
The “welkin” now has lost its place,
With “angels” filling in the space.
One George Whitefield did the edit,
But Charles Wesley gets the credit.
