Charles-Auguste de Bériot (20 February 1802 – 8 April 1870) was a Belgian violinist, artist and composer.
Two Paths
Although De Bériot composed a great amount of violin music, which is now rarely heard, his pedagogical
compositions are still of use for violin students. -- adapted from Wikipedia
De Bériot lived with the opera singer Maria Malibran and had a child with her in 1833, who became a piano professor who taught Ravel, Viñes, and Granados. -- adapted from Wikipedia
Sing a song! Make merry, Oh!
For Charles-Auguste de Beriot!
When he was on the concert scene, he
Was compared with Paganini.
He wrote a lot of music which
Has failed to find its concert niche,
But finds its humble purpose in
The teaching of the violin.
And though not yet a married man,
He had a son with Malibran,
This son taught piano to Ravel
(Apparently, he taught him well).
Which goes to show you never know,
The outcome of the seeds you sow;
Your legacy, when stars align,
Can be a bust, or turn out fine.
