Peter Pears (22 June 1910 – 3 April 1986) was an English tenor and partner of Benjamin Britten. 

 All Ears

It’s not surprising that one hears,

With the passing of the years,

Less and less of Peter Pears,

For thus it is with singing careers. 

 

The public who had given cheers

To Pears and Britten at premieres

Grows older now and disappears.

And with the turning of the spheres

As younger folks find fresh frontiers,

Foreseeably, they lend their ears

To newer breeds of balladeers.
