Mikhail Ippolitov-Ivanov (19 November [O.S. 7 November] 1859 – 28 January 1935) was a Russian composer, conductor, and teacher.
Success… Sort Of
Politically, Ippolitov-Ivanov retained a measure of independence. He was
president of the Society of Writers and Composers in 1922, but took no
part in the quarrels between musicians concerned either to encourage new
developments in music or to foster a form of proletarian art.-- Wikipedia
Ippolitov-Ivanov stayed
Above the political fray;
He plied his musicianly trade
Until he was old and gray.
It must have been expertly played,
In the Soviet state of his day
In spite of this skill, I’m afraid,
He is largely forgotten today.
