Paradox

Russ Columbo, 26, screen actor and nationally known dance orchestra leader, died in a hospital here tonight a few hours after he was shot in the head by the accidental discharge of an antique pistol at the home of Lansing Brown, portrait photographer. – New York Times obituary, 3 September 1934

In the thirties couples spooned

While Mr. Russ Columbo crooned.

Photos show his looks were dreamy,

Records prove his voice was creamy,

Chance and Fate were playing dirty

When he was killed when not yet thirty,

But though this is a tragic truth,

He thus obtained eternal youth.
