Lionel Bart (1 August 1930 – 3 April 1999) had many song hits, but his career was overwhelmingly dominated by the success of the musical Oliver!.

Perhaps I shouldn’t mention here
The downward arc of Bart’s career.
A life that’s ruined by drugs and worse
Is hard to treat in comic verse.
And so, my friends, I’ll play it safe
And stick to Oliver, the waif,
Who played the most prodigious part
Of Mr. Bart’s successful art.
