Morton Feldman (12 January 1926 – 3 September 1987) was an influential American experimental composer.
Less is Morton
Discovering the expressive power of the space around the notes, Feldman invited listeners to hear music as a gallery visitor sees paintings; absorbing the basic facts of sound from various angles. – Georg Predota, “Morton Feldman (1926-1987): Music is built on primitive memory structures”, at interlude.hk
The fans of Morton Feldman find
That music shouldn’t churn or grind,
In fact, it should be so designed
That it is soft and at a pace
Where every sound can have its place,
Within expansive sonic space.
And then these fragile tonal flowers
Should test our meditative powers,
And last, ideally, several hours.
