Samuel Arnold (10 August 1740 [N.S.] – 22 October 1802) was an English composer and organist.
Almost Royal
Princess Amelia, daughter of George II, may have been the mother of composer Samuel Arnold through an affair with a commoner of the name Thomas Arnold. – Wikipedia, s.v. “Princess Amelia of Great Britain”
In 1783, Arnold became organist at the Chapel Royal and in 1793 he became the organist at Westminster Abbey, where he was eventually buried. – Wikipedia
Samuel Arnold may have been
The grandson of the King,
But if he was conceived in sin
On some imprudent fling
He had a most distinguished career,
There was no further scandal,
And on his death was buried near
The great George Frederick Handel.
