Workmanship

Mason's compositional idiom was thoroughly romantic. He disliked impressionism and utterly disregarded the modernist musical movements of the 20th century. He was a fastidious composer who repeatedly revised his scores. – adapted from Wikipedia

When his critics were harsh or invidious,

And declared he was over-fastidious,

Said Mason, "Refinement

In a task or assignment,

May be dull, but at least it's not hideous."
