March 3 - Henry Wood (The Musical Birthday Series - 2nd Annual Cycle)

Henry Wood (3 March 1869 – 19 August 1944) was an English conductor long associated with the famous London Proms concerts.

Woodn't You?

We sing the praise of Henry Wood,
At least, I think, we surely should.
(He did the world a world of good.)
While leading music at the Proms
He programmed Beethoven and Brahms
To supplement the lighter fare
That likely was expected there.

The Proms are there for all to hear,
Anticipated year by year,
And even still the name is odd
Since no one’s there to promenade.
