June 10 - Judy Garland (The Musical Birthday Series, 2nd Annual Cycle)

Judy Garland (June 10, 1922 – June 22, 1969) was an American actress, singer, vaudevillian and dancer.
[For last year's verse on Carl Orff click here.  The similar imagery between these two postings was, believe it or not, completely coincidental.]

Lemon Drops

Over the rainbow there’s a place

Where lives are lived without disgrace,

Where movie moguls have no use

For exploitation and abuse,

Where no one merely smiles and shrugs

At overuse of booze and drugs,

Where you can rest your vaudeville shtick

When overworked and feeling sick.

This may be, at least for some,

But not (alas) for Frances Gumm.
