Up from the Depths
He was acquainted with Haydn and Beethoven, whom he visited on several occasions in Vienna, and to whom he showed the possibilities of the double bass as a solo instrument. – adapted from Wikipedia
Cut the cake and toss confetti,
On this day of Dragonetti,
Who found an unexpected place
Playing solos on the bass.
He must have gone the extra mile
To rise above the rank and file,
And learn to play his big bass viol
In such a virtuoso style!
