Karl-Birger Blomdahl (19 October 1916 – 14 June 1968) was one of the first Swedish composers to explore modernist techniques such as serialism and electronics.
Two Variations on a Theme
When Blomdahl, an anxious young Swede,
Was writing, he wondered if he’d
Be called avant-garde,
And be feathered and tarred
For adopting the serial creed.

Blomdahl Speaks (Hypothetically)

The patience of musical Swedes,
I avow that henceforth
I’ll remain in the North
Writing music that nobody needs.”
