Irving Berlin (11 May 1888 – 22 September 1989) wrote both the music and lyrics for some of the most enduring songs in the Great American Songbook.
Double Threat
For the birthday of Irving Berlin,
I had hoped to say something herein,
And I tried panegyrics
On his music or lyrics,
But I didn’t know where to begin!

Toil and Trouble
Berlin had a song-writing schtick,
A signature musical trick, --
His singers each croon
Their own separate tune,
Then they sing them together – It’s slick!
