Irving Berlin (11 May 1888 – 22 September 1989) wrote both the music and lyrics for some of the most enduring songs in the Great American Songbook.

Double Threat

For the birthday of Irving Berlin,

I had hoped to say something herein,

And I tried panegyrics

On his music or lyrics,

But I didn’t know where to begin!

Toil and Trouble

Berlin had a song-writing schtick,

A signature musical trick, --

His singers each croon

Their own separate tune,

Then they sing them together – It’s slick!
