Jacques Ibert (15 August 1890 – 5 February 1962) was a French composer.

Le Goût Français

When Jacques Ibert amused the town,

It wasn't as a vulgar clown;

Leaving pratfalls (also sermons)

To the crude (but pious) Germans;

Leaving loud guffaws and whoops

To antics from Italian troupes;

Leaving Punch and Judy’s gore

To the Channels’ other shore;

Shirking from the slightest rumor

Of anything like Russian humor.

He did, instead, his comic bit

With elegance and Gallic wit.
