Giacomo Carissimi (bapt.18 April 1605 – 12 January 1674) was an important Italian composer and music teacher, some of whose works are still in the active choral repertoire. [NB: While the portrait below is almost universally used on Carissimi, it is not used by Wikipedia in English, Italian, or German, and in such cases this usually means the portrait is not accurately assigned.]
Strike While the Iron Is Hot
Carissimi eagerly spoke,
"We've invented the Middle Baroque!"
But alas, it was fated
To be quickly outdated
By Handel and Bach and such folk.
