Arthur Schwartz (25 November 1900 – 3 September 1984) was an American composer of songs for Tin Pan Alley and Broadway.
Careering from Career to Career
He earned a B.A. in English and an M.A. in Architecture. Forced by his father, an attorney, to study law, and was admitted to the bar in 1924. -- adapted from Wikipedia
Schwartz placed his first songs in a Broadway show in 1927. By 1928, he had closed his law office and convinced Dietz to write with him. — adapted from Wikipedia
The early years of Arthur Schwartz,
Went here and there, by all repsorts,
Before he landed in the Courts.
'Til in a move that shocked his dad,
This talented resourceful lad
Forsook the brief success he'd had,
And left the Law, and had a fling
At pitching songs for stars to sing,
Which seemed a rash and foolish thing!
But sometimes Fortune smiles and greets
The doers of such daring feats,
And thus it was with Schwartz and Dietz,
Had enviable balance sheets,
With quite surprising bank receipts.
