Not the Family Business

Forced by his father, an attorney, to study law, Schwartz graduated from NYU Law School with a Doctorate in Jurisprudence and was admitted to the bar in 1924. -- Wikipedia

Arthur Schwartz, of Dietz and Schwartz,

Was trained to spend his life in courts,

But though admitted to the bar,

He chose a different path by far,

And joined the musical elites

In partnership with Howard Dietz.

In at the Beginning

A Johann Friedrich Reichardt song

Goes pleasantly in strophes along,

And though there’s nothing really wrong,

You’ll find, on hearing them, dear Reader,

They don’t compare with later Lieder.
