Carl Maria von Weber (18 or 19 November 1786 – 5 June 1826) was an important German early Romantic composer.
Compare and Contrast
To the Germans von Weber’s canonic,
A man of historical weight;
But to someone who isn’t Teutonic
His music can seem second rate.
It’s said that Ideals are Platonic,
It’s said that Ideals are innate,
If so, then it’s doubly ironic
That taste is so up for debate.
Disagreements of taste can be chronic,
On questions of “minor” or “great”,
As we bow to the Force hegemonic
Which decides what we love or we hate.

Johnny Mercer (18 November 1909 – 25 June 1976) was an American lyricist, songwriter, and singer.

It’s In the Book
If you bought the Complete Johnny Mercer,
Then you know that, for better or worser,
That the weight of the tome
When you carried it home
Makes you wish that the man had been terser.
