Gaston Leroux (6 May 1868 – 15 April 1927) was a French journalist and author, best known in the English-speaking world for his novel The Phantom of the Opera.

What is it like to give your career

To someone else’s bio,

In the archives year by year

Subservient to Clio?

Perhaps the pleasures to be had

Are valuable and various,

And truth to tell, it would be sad

If they were just vicarious.
