August 11 - Carrie Jacobs-Bond (The Musical Birthday Series)

Wisconsin native Carrie Jacobs-Bond (11 August 1862 – 28 December 1946) wrote million-selling songs for the home market.

Domestic Bonds

Great-grandmamá was very fond
Of songs by Carrie Jacobs-Bond.
No doubt she wept (perhaps unduly)
When singing through “I Love You Truly.”
While her fingers pressed the keys
Her sisters watched from plush settees.
Great-grandpapá, then still her beau,
Stood shyly in the candle glow.
A simple, innocent, serene
Victorian domestic scene.

And Carrie Jacobs-Bond grew rich
From filling this domestic niche.
