Today I sing of Weston Noble,

Who took his Nordic Choir global,

A notable achievement for a

Little college from Decorah.

She Had to Be from Somewhere (Emilia di Liverpool)

Emilia, daughter of Claudio, the "Count of Liverpool", lives in a hermitage doing good works among the people of Liverpool. [etc] -- Wikipedia, s.v. "Emilia di Liverpool"

Emilia di Liverpool is mocked; -

Its title on marquees produces laughter.

What led a great composer to concoct

A work that would be scorned forever after?

When the tenor sang “Una furtiva”

The soprano had threaten to leave a

Show where the hit

Is the tenor’s and it

Isn’t matched by a turn for the diva.

While here we say his name loo-LEE,

   The stubborn British say it LOOL-ee;

The French are right when they decree

That neither faction says it truly.

Baroque Best

The opera as heard in France

Had song, of course, but also dance,

And spectacle, to please the King,

Who doted on that sort of thing.

And no one did the style more truly

Than it was done by J.-B. Lully.

Anton Stamitz (bapt. 27 November 1750 – c. 1798–1809) was a German composer and violinist.

A Limerick for Anton Stamitz

Between 1782 and 1789 he played in the King's court orchestra in Versailles, and obtained the title ordinaire de la musique du roi. His biography after the french Revolution in 1789 is not known, but he probably died in Paris or Versailles. He may have died as late as 1809. -- adapted from Wikipedia

It’s sad, on this day, to report

That his time at the French royal court

Was going just great,

Then, defeated by Fate,

Both his job and the King were cut short.
