A Case of Two Fathers; or, Advice to Researchers
We don't, in fact, know when Johann van Beethoven was born, but 14 November appears occasionally for reasons apparently not backed up by evidence. -- The Author
We don't, in this erudite Series,
Give space to conspiracy theories,
And so when we saw that two dads,
Who fathered two genius lads,
Were born on this day in November,
We took a deep breath to remember
That coincidence sometimes delivers
Spontaneous cognitive shivers,
And there needn't be mystic causality
When the facts seem to flout rationality.
When facts are too good to be true,
The sensible thing you should do
Is to check in reliable sources
Before you blame mystical forces,
For sometimes the cause of the terror
Is merely an editor's error.
