July 9 - Ottorino Respighi (The Musical Birthday Series)

Ottorino Respighi (9 July 1879 – 18 April 1936) was one of those composers who wrote a huge catalog of  works in many genres, but is remembered for a handful of popular orchestral showpieces.

Nonsense Couplets for Respighi

I.
Respighi, invoking his home,
Could say that there’s no place like Rome.

II.
The orchestra works of Respighi
Aren’t even the slightest bit Grieg-y

III.
What parents would give their bambino
The singular name Ottorino?

IV.
When your orchestral writing is splashy
Toe the line between flashy and trashy.
