July 7 - Gustav Mahler (The Musical Birthday Series)

Gustav Mahler (7 July 1860 – 18 May 1911) was one of the greatest conductors and composers of his time.

Music Therapy

When Mahler wrote Songs on Dead Kids
He had hit the emotional skids,
And sought for relief
In the belief that his grief
Was the conflict egos and ids.

M is for Mahler

When Mahler wrote Symphony Eight
For a thousand, or something as great,
He tried not to judge it
In terms of a budget
And threw the whole works on the plate.

Best Laid Plans

When Mahler sat down with his pen
And started to write number ten,
He thought he could finish
If he kept the score thinnish,
But, of course, he just couldn't say “when.”
