Parton Ways

Everyone, it seems, loves Dolly,
From Saskatchewan to Raleigh,
From Fort Lauderdale to Juneau,
Everyone that I or you know.

Those who hate the country spirit,
When by accident they hear it,
Even they find they don’t mind it
When it’s Dolly’s voice behind it.

Janis Joplin (19 January 1943 – 4 October 1970) was an extraordinarily intense rock and blues singer.

Variations on a Tragic Theme

1.
Janis Joplin lost control
To drugs, and sex, and rock-n-roll,
But it was, of course, the first
That in the end was proved the worst.

2.
When neither balances nor checks
Control your use of drugs and sex,
If on the road you pay your dues
To rock’n’roll and soul and blues,
And mix your heroin with booze,
If such a life is barely bearable,
No wonder that the end is terrible.
