January 8 - Jaromir Weinberger; Hans von Bülow (The Musical Birthday Series)

Jaromir Weinberger (8 January 1896 – August 8, 1967) was a Czech-American composer whose once very popular "Polka and Fugue" from Schwanda the Bagpiper still gets occasional performances.

Double Dactyl for J.W.

Higgledy-piggledy,
Jaromir Weinberger,
Flush from success which he
Wished to repeat,

Thought that his Wanda die
Dudelsackpfeiferin
Would find success with the
Man on the street.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Almost a Double Dactyl for J. W.

Higgledy-piggledy,
Jaromir Weinberger,
After success which he
Never could equal,

Wondered if Wanda die
Dudelsackpfeiferin
Would be worth writing to
Serve as a sequel.

Hans von Bülow (8 January 1830 –12 February 1894) was a pianist and conductor, especially
remembered for championing the operas of Wagner and other progressive composers.

Souvenir de Bayreuth

Hans von Bülow married
   The daughter of Liszt.
She, however, varied
   Her life with a tryst.
Hans von Bülow tarried
   Unloved and unkissed,
Put upon and harried,
   And rightfully pissed --
Hero worship buried
    His will to resist.
