Of Marschner it’s perfectly clear,
That had he not written Vampyr,
His musical pages
Would be lost to the ages,
And I wouldn't be writing this here.

Marschner indeed was a figure of note
To judged from the musical textbooks,
But ask a musician to hum what he wrote,
And you’re sure to be met with perplexed looks.
