August 7 - Granville Bantock (The Musical Birthday Series, 2nd Annual Series)

Granville Bantock (7 August 1868 – 16 October 1946) was an important British conductor.  He was a prolific composer of works which are now seldom performed outside of his native country.

In a moment of pity or piety

They founded a Bantock Society.

Perhaps they were right

Thus to honor the knight,

Or might it have been inebriety?
