February 7 - Eubie Blake (The Musical Birthday Series, 2nd Annual Cycle)

Eubie Blake (7 February 1887 – 12 February 1983) was an important pianist and composer of popular songs and shows. [This post is in celebration of Black History Month.]

At age 15, without his parents' knowledge, he began playing piano at Aggie Shelton's Baltimore bordello.-- Wikipedia

  Unbeknownst to his mother,

  Sneaked out and became

The piano man at a bordello.

Career Path: Ending

Eubie!, a revue featuring the music of Blake opened on Broadway in 1978. The show was a hit at the Ambassador Theatre, where it ran for 439 performances.-- adapted from Wikipedia

At 90, and hardly a newbie,

His music was featured in Eubie!,

They say he was proud

To attract such a crowd,

And well, at the age, wouldn't you be?
