Oscar Hammerstein II (12 July 1895 – 23 August 1960) was an American lyricist, librettist, and theatrical producer.

Oscar Hammerstein the Second

Looked around the scene, and reckoned

That writing songs would be his art,

And he would do the verbal part.

And in due course he took his turn

With Sigmund Romberg and with Kern,

Until he left these older codgers

And spent his career with Richard Rodgers.
