George M. Cohan (3 July 1878 – 5 November 1942) was an American entertainer, playwright, composer, lyricist, actor, singer, dancer and theatrical producer.
What a Difference a Day Makes
A baptismal certificate from indicated that he was born on July 3, but Cohan and his family always insisted that George had been "born on the Fourth of July!" --- Wikipedia
Although it seems a bit absurd,
George M. Cohan much preferred
To move his birthday from the third.
To claim the Fourth was found more handy
For this Yankee Doodle Dandy.
And there are graver things on earth
Than quibbling on a date of birth.
