Charles Tomlinson Griffes (17 September 1884 – 8 April 1920) was an American composer.

Charles Tomlinson Griffes, who

Fell victim of the Spanish flu,

Died so young that now his story

Serves as a memento mori.

So if you’re one who’s now alive,

And you are over thirty-five,

Think of Griffes and continue

To give the world whatever’s in you.
