Edward German (17 February 1862 – 11 November 1936) was an English composer best remembered for incidental music and operettas.
Finishing School
At his death, Sullivan had finished two musical numbers from The Emerald Isle in their entirety, leaving behind sketches of at least the voice parts for about half of the others. Edward German was commissioned to complete the numbers Sullivan had sketched and to compose the rest of the opera himself. -- Wikipedia
When Sullivan died his Emerald Isle,
Which had been worked on for a while,
Was found unfinished on his desk,
And so to save this last burlesque,
D'oyly-Carte devoutly fetched
The meager bits that had been sketched.
There seemed to be enough to go on,
To finish up, and base a show on;
He used his savvy to determine
To give the job to Edward German.
