Out of the Duparc

Though scarce in quantity, great is the quality of these pieces. L'invitation au voyage, La Chanson triste, Phidylé or La vie antérieure are gems of French music, comparable, according to certain critics to the most beautiful of Schubert's Lieder.  — durand-salabert-eschig.com

The output of Duparc (Henri)

Consists of several mélodies,

Of seventeen, to be exact,

Which as an oeuvre is compact,

But makes up for its lack of length

By subtle lapidary strength.

Envoi

You don’t need length to make your mark;

You needn’t holler, snarl or bark.

You're neither God nor Patriarch:

A lesson from Henri Duparc.
