Surfeit

Though I’ve tried, I cannot bear a

Song as sung by Aguilera.

I get queasy, seasick, dismal

Hearing singing so melismal.

Each and every phrase unfurling,

Curling, twirling, swirling, whirling.

Why would any singer choose

To deck each note with curlicues?

Please, Christina, strut your stuff,

But sometimes, well, enough's enough!

Five Riffs on a Career Decision

Although a talented musician, Henderson decided to dedicate himself to math and science. After earning a bachelor's degree in chemistry and mathematics he got a part-time job as a lab assistant in a downtown Manhattan chemistry firm, but this only lasted a year. — adapted from Wikipedia

(1)

He worked in a lab, but left the position

To take up the life of a gigging musician.

(2)

Fletcher Henderson, a chemist by training

Found that the piano was more entertaining.

(3)

He put down his goggles, and stopped his experiment,

To live by providing both music and merriment.

(4)

And when he decided to give it a stab,

It was hello to the bandstand, and goodbye to the lab.

(5)

Hello to the bandstand, goodbye test tube holder

He’s changing his career before he grows older.
