Yvonne Loriod (20 January 1924 – 17 May 2010) was a French pianist, teacher, and composer, and the wife of composer Olivier Messiaen. 



 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Variations on a French Theme

 

Messiaen said that he was able to indulge in "the greatest eccentricities" when writing for piano, knowing that they would be mastered by Loriod. -- Wikipedia

At the piano, Yvonne Loriod

Approached a new work like a pro;

The notes might be crazed,

But Yvonne was unfazed,

And sat down and gave it a go.

When caught in fertility’s glow,

It helped a composer to know

That the public would hear

The prodigious premiere
