Nicolas-Charles Bochsa (9 August 1789 – 6 January 1856) was a French harpist and composer who had a remarkably tumultuous life.

People Will Say We're in Love

Bochsa and Anna Bishop arrived with Bishop in Sydney, Australia in December 1855, but they gave only one concert together before Bochsa died. Bishop was heartbroken, and commissioned an elaborate tomb for him in Camperdown Cemetery. – adapted from Wikipedia

N.-C. Bochsa earned acclaim,

Although he lived a life of shame.

He fled from France, accused of fraud,

And set up shop again abroad.

In London, after great success,

He made his life again a mess, –

And ran away to set up house

With Henry Bishop’s lawful spouse.

The couple’s lawless love endured

And he and Mrs. Bishop toured

The New World, Europe, and Down Under.

This last, alas, a fatal blunder,

For Sydney is where Bochsa died.

With Anna Bishop at his side.

His partner, overcome, but brave,

Commissioned Bochsa’s lavish grave.

Which was an un-Victorian fashion

Of celebrating sinful passion!
