Franz von Suppé (18 April 1819 – 21 May 1895) was an Austrian composer of light operas and other theater music.
Realistic Appraisal
In German-speaking countries
His operettas still
Fill the need for something
That gives a gentle thrill.
In non-Teutonic nations,
In spite of all their skill.
Von Suppé’s shows have not caught on, —
And likely never will.
