Beyond the Rockies

The music critic of the Chicago Tribune wrote, "Her Juliet is breathtakingly beautiful to the eye and dulcet to the ear”. – Wikipedia

Jeanette MacDonald (did you know?)

Gave the opera stage a go,

Singing roles by Charles Gounod.

A circumstance which goes to show

That there is always room to grow

Beyond the current status quo.

Book Learning

Kyser came up with an act combining a quiz with music which became "Kay Kyser's Kollege of Musical Knowledge." The show rose in the ratings and spawned many imitators. Kyser led the band as "The Ol' Perfessor", spouting catchphrases, such as: "That's right—you're wrong", "Evenin' folks, how y'all?" and "C'mon, chillun! Le's dance!" – adapted from Wikipedia

Kay Kyser’s Kollege

Of Musical Knowledge,

A comic vaudevillian gimmick,

Laid it on pretty thick

With a unsubtle schtick,

That some, for some reason, would mimic.
