Ossip Gabrilowitsch (7 February [O.S. 26 January] 1878 – 14 September 1936) was a Russian-born American pianist, conductor and composer.
Biographical Speculations
On 6 October 1909, he married Mark Twain's daughter Clara Clemenes, a singer who appeared with him in recital. -- Wikipedia
Though I’d like to assume
That the bride and her groom
Were happily toasted and cheered,
Were Clara and Ossip
The subject of gossip
When their wedding announcement appeared?
Was there family discussion
Deriding this Russian,
No matter how famed and revered?
Did they think that their girl
Was too precious a pearl
For the pianist who now had appeared?
Or did father Mark Twain
Provide the champagne
And a wedding cake multiply tiered?
