Richard Carpenter (b. 15 October 1946) is an American musician, record producer, songwriter, and music arranger, who formed half of the sibling duo The Carpenters.

Heroic Couplets for R.C.; or, Don’t Be a Karen
The brother in a brother-sister act
Must have, he finds, a certain kind of tact.
For though he may admire his female sibling
(For her he’d walk through fire without quibbling),
He’s tempted to regard her as a rival,
And think about his personal survival.
And even when their show has a made a killing,
He tells his shrink he finds it less than thrilling
That he is always stuck with second billing.
