Pierre-Alexandre Monsigny (17 October 1729 – 14 January 1817) was a French composer, and one of the originators of the opéra comique style.

If his tunes have a family weakness,
It's their simple straight-forward comiqueness,
But his ditties held sway
As the hits of the day,
And were reckoned the acme of chicness.
