Only Human After All

The partnership Comden and Green

Was a hit-making writing machine,

And with hit after hit

It’s no shame to admit

To occasional flops in between.

Pure Speculation

Did lyricists Comden and Green

Establish a writing routine

Of liquor and uppers

At late evening suppers,

With doses of midnight caffeine?

More Pure Speculation

Were they mindful how long they had bēēn

The twosome of Comden and Green,

When fresh-faced arrivals

Trying out for revivals,

Were unborn when their shows were first seen?
