Parisian Life

If you had live, by some strange chance,

In early eighteenth-century France,

You may have had the luck to know

Louis-Nicholas Clérambault.

But in our own (the twenty-first),

You’d have to be extremely versed

In matters of the place and time

Considered in this simple rhyme,

To know his name when I invoke

This master of the French Baroque.
